A Whole Lotta Nothing

Some of our summer days have been busy, busy, busy. But many of them have been lazy, lazy, lazy...and I love it! We're getting used to the rental house and working on some new routines. One of those new routines is naptime. Bridget has decided that she no longer wants to nap in her crib (and I know this because she cries and cries while twisting her hair into mangled knots when I put her down.) So, she's been falling asleep on the couch where she seems to be quite cozy...


And while I could NEVER get her to sleep for more than an hour at time in her crib, she's sleeping for 2-3 hours on the couch. I've decided the couch napping is really not a problem after all! And of course, half the time I find myself lying right next to her reading or watching mindless daytime TV. Shhh, just don't tell Todd!!

This weekend we had to make the dreaded move to a temporary rental house so our house can be fixed. Even though we should be back in our house in 4-6 months, it was sad to leave. When we move back in, Bridget's room won't be a baby room anymore. It will be her big girl room. She'll say goodbye to her crib and hello to a twin bed. I'm very excited to decorate this new room (and of course I've already begun!), but I'll miss her baby room so much. It was so perfect...




And while the rental house we're living in lacks a lot of our cozy home comforts, it will do. There are a few things we really like about the house...

Other than the move, our summer vacation is going great. Beach days, pool days, storytime at the library and music class tomorrow!

New Friends

Bridget has never been one to become attached to things. She never took a pacifier...she was always happy with whatever blankie we gave her...never needed that extra special toy to get her to sleep.

Then, all of the sudden she decided that now, at 20 months, she needed 4 things at all times. One afternoon before her nap, she ran to her stuffed animal basket and pulled out a few little friends. I threw them in the crib with her and let her drift off for her catnap...When she woke up she had them all clutched to her chest and hasn't put them down since.

They are her new best friends and they make her so happy. When she sees one she grabs it and smiles so big and hugs it tight. She loves holding all of them at once. We take them upstairs, downstairs, to bed, to the playroom and I let her bring one when we get in the car.

She lines them up on the couch and looks right into their eyes. On one car ride we brought Care Bear along and I saw her making him dance to the radio from the rear view mirror!

I love that she has found some comfort in the these little stuffed animals...I only hope her collection doesn't keep growing. I don't know how many more she can fit in her arms!









Oh, and she got this new shopping cart too. She loves to pretend like she is going to Publix!

We Made It!

Our summer began yesterday as I finished up my very last day of work for the school year. A year ago, I dreaded the thought of going back to work after being at home with Bridget for nearly her first year. I was positive it was going to be the worst thing ever. But now, after I survived a year as a working mom, I can say that it couldn't have gone better.

It didn't take long at all for Bridget to adjust to spending her days with my mom. Almost instantly, she began reaching out for her as I as left her in the morning. My mom met me at school to pick her up and I can't even count the number of times that my coworkers told me how much they loved watching the three of us in the morning. And every afternoon she was just as thrilled to see me come and get her again.

Bridget and Todd also did some extra bonding once I went back to work. Every morning he would wake her up at 6:30, get her dressed and sit down with her for a cup of milk. I'm pretty sure he'll miss those mornings with her during these summer months.

And while I fully admit, that I would LOVE the chance the be at home with her everyday, I feel like we have the best of everything...Jobs to go to everyday and family to count on whenever we need them. And having 2 1/2 months off in the summer is pretty amazing!

So our summer officially started on Wednesday which turned out the be a rainy and dreary day. But after the rain, the sun came out and the puddles were big...






This morning she had a little summer bucket waiting for her along with a special pancake-with-sprinkles breakfast!
